Kansas Disability Coalition, Inc., is a non-profit organization incorporated under the law of Kansas. It applied for 503(c)(3) tax-exempt status and that application is pending. There are no membership dues: membership is established by simply filling out a membership form.

The Kansas Disability Coalition, Inc., is organized exclusively for educational purposes, which includes, but is not limited to, providing information about and advocating compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Kansas Acts Against Discrimination, other federal and state laws regarding access to persons with disabilities, and litigation, when necessary, associated with those laws. In short, the purpose of KDC is to Educate, Advocate, and Litigate.

Despite the legal lack of requirement of notice before filing suit under the ADA, the Kansas Disability Coalition will not engage in litigation against an entity that has not had notice that it is not in compliance with the ADA. It will attempt to educate non-compliant entities such as public accommodations and governmental entities. It is anticipated that most entities will voluntarily comply. In the event they do not, KDC will attempt compliance with the assistance of the courts.

KDC does not participate in or organize ìactionsî such as picketing or civil disobedience. The philosophy of KDC is that the rights to access of persons with physical disabilities are guaranteed by law and that enforcement should take place either voluntarily by request or as a result of a court order, where necessary.

The goal is to achieve total compliance with disability laws; that goal is set and reached on a case-by-case basis. Considering the wide-spread noncompliance, it is unlikely that total compliance on a state-wide basis will be achieved. However, as to each complaint, some type of resolution will be reached in a timely manner.
